Environment Protection

The Kingdom of Bahrain places the protection of the environment and its resources and the preservation of biodiversity at the forefront of its development priorities, and the government of the Kingdom has strengthened its interest in protecting the environment and placed it within its program, which emphasizes achieving environmental sustainability, improving the efficiency of the use and rationalization of resource and energy consumption, developing environmental impact assessment mechanisms for economic projects, and encouraging the production, use and investment in renewable energy.

The Government of Bahrain has developed policies to encourage the use of biodegradable plastic bags in line with the United Nations' call to combat environmental pollution. Non-biodegradable and single-use plastic bags have been banned across the Kingdom. Also, we work to reduce the amount of plastic waste we produce by prohibiting the manufacture of plastic water containers and cups with sizes under 200 milliliters, and by importing and trading plastic water containers with smaller sizes, which reduce the environment's impact. Eventually plastic bags will be banned completely.
